Personnel

The City of Rockledge fire department personnel consists of 33 "combat" firefighters, three district chiefs, Three administrative chiefs and a staff assistant.

The 33 "combat" firefighters, as well as the three district chiefs work 24 hour shifts, arranged in a specific rotation which is commonly referred to as a "Kelly" schedule.  They report to the station for a shift of 24 hours, and then they are off for 24 hours.  This rotation is repeated for five days, and at the end of those five days they are given 96 hours (four days) off, after which the rotation begins again.  This schedule allows for a fully staffed emergency response for the citizens of Rockledge, any time, day or night.

No more than two firefighters are allowed to be off duty at any given time.  Therefore a Rockledge fire engine responding to an emergency will always have at least three firefighters, with at least one of them being a Florida certified paramedic.

Your firefighters are here for you.  If you are in need we will answer the call day or night, rain or shine.  Feel free to stop by any of our three stations during normal business hours to meet us.
